International Culture Exchange

Beijing People's Art Theatre has performed all over the country in the half-century history, with its definite acting style rooting in the audiences. The theatre always emphasizes on international cultural and artistic exchange. One of the important events in the 1980's was the international tour of Teahouse to Germany, France, Switzerland, Japan, Canada, Singapore and Hong Kong. It has won a great reputation:" A miracle from the theatrical Art of the Orient.", "The most sensational dramatic event since Mei Lanfang's tour visit in Japan in the 1930s.

The tour led to international joint ventures of the Theatre with international well-known artists in its production. Toby Roberston from Great Britain, Arthur Miller Charlton and Heston from the U.S., and the general artistic director from the Moscow Art Theatre, Mr.Oleg Yevremov all came to Beijing to direct productions in the theatre.

During the spring festival of 2003, Teahouse performed by a new generation of actors provided an opportunity for foreigners Living and working in Beijing to sample an authentic touch of Chinese theatre.

The audiences including experts, diplomats and business people from 50 nations could understand the story with the help of English subtitles. "We feel like we are sipping Chinese history in a teahouse!" Said one of them.

The theatre has attracted many national and international friends to visit. Members of the theatre have also been invited to go abroad to lecture and direct plays in foreign countries. Through these activities and practices, the theatre hopes to be a part of the creative, exploring and vanguard theatrical companies on the global scene.
